Over time, I found that trying to create a "pretty" BuJo either took too much time or left me with a lot of rushed work I didn't enjoy looking at anyway. I doodled on my pages (even had a two-page spread for daily doodles to encourage myself to do that more). My first bullet journal started out as a fun one.
